Claire qualified as a vet from RVC in 2000 and has worked in most areas of first option work, starting in mixed practice before spending 12 years in equine practice where she gained her CertAVP (Equine Medicine). A diagnosis of ME/CFS in 2016 played a large part in her decision in 2018 to transition back to small animal practice in the role of locum.

In 2018, Claire co-founded the Veterinary Spoonholders UK Facebook group, out of which BVICS arose. She has been a trustee since the charity's creation in 2021, and currently serves as Chair.
